Business is booming for Systimax Solutions, which offers a wide range of network infrastructure, from Category 5e LAN networking media for data and voice, to 10GB copper and fiberoptic cables for campus networks, together with the connectors and interfaces to link cabling to switches, routers and other network hardware. The company also provides wireless infrastructure.
"In China, we are overwhelmingly the market leader," said Charles Wong, regional director, Systimax Greater China, "We were one of the first overseas vendors to offer cabling solutions in China, and we have established an excellent brand name, plus an extensive sales network and leading local system integrators as partners."
A key market for Systimax is datacenter infrastructure and in China, the demand for new datacenters is growing at up to 40% a year. Customers include large enterprises such as petroleum companies, telcos, banks, insurance companies and government entities. |

China tops spending
Surprisingly, people in China are prepared to spend more money on IT infrastructure than in Hong Kong. "China needs to compete with international corporations and their computer networks are a key resource," said Wong. "But it's no good investing in top-end servers and storage if the infrastructure represents a bottleneck. It's easy to upgrade application or storage servers to achieve more bandwidth, but it's not easy to upgrade structural cabling and the campus network if you start with low-end choices," he said.
Another reason for choosing high standards for cable infrastructure is to plan for a 5-10 year life, without being limited in bandwidth. "We are the technology leader, and our specification is always the highest, with particular emphasis on transmission quality," said Wong. "We work very closely with network designers, to ensure cabling matches the needs of the hardware and software applications running over it. In general, we adopt new cabling standards and technologies before our competitors."
These days, Systimax also has wireless solutions, but the company doesn't believe in 'wireless versus cable'. "We consider them complementary, and we advise clients on the best way to configure wireless access points and their connection to networks for LAN, Internet and telco services," said Wong.
Banking on cable
Systimax's key market in Hong Kong is the financial institutions, and a recent project was infrastructure for the state-of-the-art offices of Société Générale CIB, a provider of integrated financial solutions, in the prestigious building at Three Pacific Place.
The client chose Systimax LazrSPEED fiber and GigaSPEED X10D solution for the 10 GB network backbone. LazrSPEED 300 multimode fiber was used for the offices, to support 10GBs Ethernet for up to 300m. GigaSPEED X10D solution delivers 10GBs over a 100m, four-connector channel and conforms to the latest Category 6A cabling standard.
The horizontal data connections from communications hubs to the desktops are made with Systimax GigaSPEED XL cabling at 1GBs. PowerSUM cabling gives the same reliability for voice connections. The cabling has been installed by Prime Systems Technologies Ltd. of Hong Kong, a ten-year partner of Systimax. "We need fast, reliable networked systems and to support these, we chose cabling infrastructure from Systimax Solutions," said Mr Henry Lui, senior technical officer at Société Générale CIB.
