Network Box provides managed security services by installing the company's comprehensive security appliances on customers' networks, then monitoring them 24 hours and 365 days from the nearest security operations center. "In-house security systems just cannot match this level of vigilance, through every night, including weekends and holidays," said Michael Gazeley, managing director at Network Box.

Firewalls and even second generation UTM (Unified Threat Management) systems do not provide enough protection. Network Box utilizes third generation UTM+ (Unified Threat Management Plus) applications platforms, in order to provide clients with a full range of security applications.

These security services include a state-of-the-art hybrid firewall, IDP (Intrusion Detection and Prevention), VPN (Virtual Private Networking), anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware, anti-phishing, content filtering and organizational policy control functions. Full reporting, both in real-time and via periodic reports, are also provided.

"A range of hardware appliances is available to match the size and complexity of each client," said Gazeley, "However, all the Network Box appliances provide identical security services, and the same world class network protection."
The security menace
Managed Security Services have seen phenomenal growth during the last five years. This is because there has been a very dramatic rise, in both the number and the complexity of threats which IT Managers have to deal with.

Almost every local area network now has an "always-on" Internet connection and on average, suffers direct attacks every 3.3 seconds, intrusion attempts every 9.5 seconds, virus attacks every 11.5 minutes, and incoming SPAM emails every 51.4 seconds. About 78% of all email is either infected with a virus or worm, or is junk mail. This may relate to the fact that 53% of web use in the workplace is not even business related.

Network attacks not only cost money, but also time, privacy, business continuity, and in some cases, the organization's marketplace credibility. "You're only as safe as your last update," said Gazeley, "New viruses and threats can attack at any moment. With everything that keeps your company alive stored on your computer, you need a Network Box protecting your network."

A global monitoring service
What makes the Network Box Managed Security Service virtually impenetrable is the worldwide network of Security Operations Centers, which remotely monitor, manage and update every Network Box system in the world. "New anti-virus signatures, security patches and security updates, are pushed out as soon as they're released," said Gazeley, "On average within 45 seconds from when they are available."

SMEs embracing the service
Globally, the security firm supports many blue chip companies, such as BMW, Hitachi and Nintendo. One trend in recent years is that small and medium sized companies, which comprise up to 98% of in this region, are using the service in greater numbers, and thus obtaining exactly the same protection as large enterprises, government departments and banks.

"SMEs often have the least security protection, and if they are subject to a major security breach, they may have not have the financial resources to be able to survive a total loss of business continuity," said Gazeley, "Unfortunately, they often call us in after such an attack when the damage has been done."

Network Box E-1000 UTM+ system
The Network Box E-1000 is the world's first 64bit UTM+ system and it incorporates high quality server grade components including: AMD Opteron 64bit CPU, industrial flash drive, high performance ECC RAM, RAID-1 mirrored SCSI hard disk drives and dual hot swap high performance power supplies.

Network port configurations can be customized on this model, including Gigabit TX, SX and LX ports, to suit individual user requirements. "These design features allows for significantly improved operational efficiencies," said Gazeley, "As well as increased performance gains throughout the entire system."
