Polycom made major strides in the high definition space in the past 12 months.

"At Polycom, we believe high definition video conferencing-that comprises HD video, HD voice and HD contents-will definitely boost the productivity and broaden the possibility for many applications requiring highest (video) quality," said Jason Bowers, regional sales director, India, ASEAN including Hong Kong, Taiwan & Philippines, Polycom. He added that the market is shifting to HD video conferencing gradually, and the first to adopt are those who can leverage HD for specific applications.

Part of the Polycom's major movement towards high definition in the last 12 months was an engineering breakthrough for the company's RMX 2000 real-time media conferencing platform. According to the firm, the breakthrough will help deliver true HD continuous presence conferencing with full transcoding on the existing RMX 2000 media processing module hardware.

In March, at VON Conference & Expo held held in San Jose, the company unveiled the expansion of its line of standards-based VoIP desktop phones with three new models, including two enterprise-grade entry-level phones, and a high-performance four-line phone with Polycom HD Voicetechnology.

Polycom also heartily believes video conferencing is a key driver of change in the workplace at the desktop level. "Tremendous breakthroughs in technology, the prevalent use of the Internet, major telecom network investment and a further evolution into how people work has resulted in video conferencing becoming a 'must-have' application if enterprises are to remain competitive," said Bowers.
