Global recruitment firm Hudson says it has streamlined its operations and improved business continuity with a newly deployed storage and server infrastructure that has also cut power use by half.
With a global presence of more than 2,000 staff operating in 20 countries, Hudson offers professional recruitment, talent management, recruitment outsourcing and related staffing services to organisations.
“We have improved Hudson’s business continuity by modifying our disaster recovery strategy,” said Bas Alblas, IT director for Europe.
Alblas said the back-office IT infrastructure of all Hudson’s offices across Europe has been consolidated into a London data centre, and it plans to build a mirrored data centre “for complete redundancy”.
He said, “HP servers and storage systems now ensure full recovery of all our applications. HP storage ensures uninterrupted availability for all our users, and virtualising all our physical servers onto HP ProLiant blade servers has cut Hudson’s data centre power usage in half.”
A single unified storage pool now supports Hudson’s virtualised environment, business applications and services. A storage area network (SAN) based on an HP LeftHand storage system provides 61TB (terabytes)of secure, “easily managed” storage for Hudson’s business-critical data, said Alblas.
Thin provisioning has already saved 43TB of physical disk space and performance can be scaled to grow with Hudson’s business, he said.
A HP Virtual Connect system simplifies the connection of the SAN to a virtualised server platform of HP ProLiant BladeSystem c7000 enclosures with 26 HP ProLiant BL490c server blades running VMware 4.1. And an HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) system makes it possible to manage the HP servers remotely.
HP partner Softcat provided advice and testing for the HP system prior to deployment.
