NetApp build’s a private storage for Amazon Web Services

NetApp has announced NetApp Private Storage for AWS – an enterprise storage solution that utilizes AWS Direct Connect to provide its customers with the ability to establish a dedicated network connection from their existing infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

With this offering, organisations can replicate data from on-premise NetApp storage environments to NetApp Private Storage, and through AWS Direct Connect they can leverage on-demand cloud services. NetApp Private Storage powered by AWS allows enterprises to build an agile cloud infrastructure that balances internal data centre resources along with AWS cloud resources to best meet their business needs.

With NetApp Private Storage for AWS, companies can access big data analytics by  leveraging NetApp Private Storage along with Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR) to accomplish big data analysis at a fraction of the cost of running on premise.

Users can also deploy cost-effective disaster recovery by leveraging Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) in failover scenarios. They may also leverage tiered disk backup and recovery using Amazon Glacier as a more reliable alternate to a tape archive.

NetApp Private Storage for AWS’ support for high performance NFS and CIFS means that companies can  easily move traditional enterprise applications to the cloud. Companies may also seamlessly move data between AWS regions, increasing application redundancy.

“Organizations use the on-demand scalability and reliability of Amazon Web Services as a critical extension to their on-premise IT infrastructure,” said Scott Morris, managing director, NetApp ASEAN. “NetApp Private Storage provides our customers the ability to leverage infrastructure that spans cloud and internal IT resources. We are committed to helping our customers achieve greater agility for their IT infrastructure.”

NetApp Private Storage is immediately available through Avnet Technology Solutions in Equinix data centers in Singapore and it will be available in other selected Equinix locations in Asia and Europe in the near future.

“This solution will allow customers to take advantage of AWS’s scalability and its utility cost efficiency, NetApp’s fortified storage foundation to run performance applications in the cloud, and Equinix’s high-performance access to the AWS Cloud to implement cost-effective solutions for requirements such as DR, development, test, and analytics,” said Bennett Wong, vice president and general manager for Avnet Technology Solutions ASEAN. “Our goal is to work with our partner channels to ensure they can take solutions such as this quickly and cost effectively to their end-user customers.”
