Singapore leads the Southeast Asia region as a data center hub

DatacenterDynamics is casting the spotlight on the rapidly growing data center industry in Southeast Asia. The 2013 DatacenterDynamics Industry Census of over 5,000 data center owners and operators – the largest of its kind – has indicated that while the region is home to some of the fastest growing data center markets in the world, Singapore leads the region as a data center hub, accounting for more than 60 percent of the market.

“Today, Southeast Asia has the highest rate of investment growth compared to anywhere else in the world,” said Nicola Hayes, Managing Director, DCD Intelligence, the business intelligence division of DatacenterDynamics. “These key emerging markets are rapidly developing their network infrastructure and connectivity, and have become well-placed to meet the data center needs of companies. Cross-country collaboration among the countries within the region has also ensured that the data center sector remains focused on quality, adequacy and stability.”

Singapore’s  data center space is growing at a rate of 10 percent per annum, as a result of Government initiatives aimed at attracting large corporates, as well as its robust communications infrastructure. DatacenterDynamics anticipates that Singapore will maintain leadership position. Currently, the Singapore data center market is four times as large as Malaysia’s, the region’s next largest.

Establishing Industry-wide Best Practice for Data Centers

DatacenterDynamics’ focus on the dynamic Southeast Asian data center industry continues on 23 and 24 October in Singapore. On October 23, the Data Center Strategy Summit will be held for senior representatives from the region’s largest IT users who will hear more about creating strategic advantage through data center portfolios.

The Summit will be followed by the DatacenterDynamics Converged Conference, held for the first time in Singapore on 24 October at Marina Bay Sands. One of the region’s largest data center conferences, the event will feature thought leaders from governments, organizations and the industry who will offer an insight into best practices, upcoming developments, key issues and plans.
