When producing Ammazza, we wanted to integrate two things individuals enjoy the most– pizza + beer– and put them in an open, neighborhood-friendly area that invites people to reoccur as they please. With a vast selection of over 30 well-considered beers, we then set out with an enthusiastic goal– to develop the very best pizza cash could buy.
We dealt with the simple truth that people recognize quality, so we developed a pizza utilizing the best active ingredients. Instead of limiting ourselves to Neapolitan-style or NY-style pizza, we combined the qualities we loved from each style to produce a genuinely different pizza experience.
Our dough, cooked in a 900-degree wood fire oven, is made of Caputo 00 flour, fresh yeast, water, and sea salt. It is artfully prepared, and we let it increase for three days before it is served. Unlike real Neapolitan pizzas, we did not wish to restrict ourselves to active ingredients solely from a single region in Italy. These components can yield a great pizza; we discovered that to reach our goal, we think there are more fresh, more delicious ingredients from other regions of the world– particularly and specifically in our back yard!
We make our fresh mozzarella daily, source veggies from local farms, and utilize meats cured and prepared by The Spotted Trotter in Kirkwood. All this enables us to provide a robust pizza in fresh flavors and distinct to our region.
The smart people at Ammazza know the basic equation that brings a crowd: good pizza and beer. Neapolitan-style pizzeria Ammazza is no longer serving pies in Decatur after a short two-year stint at 314 E Howard Ave. The dining establishment over the weekend permanently closed its doors, according to a post on Ammazza’s Facebook. “It is with fantastic sadness and a heavy heart that we reveal the irreversible closure of our Decatur location,” the social networks post states. “We will continue serving the neighborhood through Ammazza Edgewood.”.
The Old Fourth Ward station on Edgewood– the original for the two-location pizza joint– was released in 2012 under the instructions of bros Hugh and Jason Connerty. It closed temporarily in summertime 2017 when its century-old home was harmed due to two auto accidents. It resumed in spring 2019, right after the now-shuttered Decatur area made its debut.
It’s unclear why Ammazza Decatur has closed its doors as a factor for the shutter was not provided as part of the social network statement.
